Proper installation is crucial for accurate readings and reliable operation of the water flow sensor.

The sensor features a 3-wire connection. Connect the wires as follows:

  • 赤いワイヤー: VCC (+) - Connect to the positive power supply (3-24V DC).
GND (-) - Connect to ground.
Signal Output - Connect to your microcontroller or reading device.

The sensor uses G3/8 inch BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads. If connecting to NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads, it is recommended to use thread seal tape to ensure a watertight connection.

Ensure the sensor is installed with the correct flow direction. An arrow indicating the flow direction is marked on the sensor body. Align this arrow with the direction of water flow in your system.

  • Install the sensor in a section of pipe where the water flow is stable and free from turbulence.
  • Avoid installing near pumps or valves that may cause sudden changes in flow or pressure.
  • Ensure easy access for future maintenance or inspection.

The DIGITEN G3/8 Water Flow Sensor operates on the Hall effect principle. Inside the sensor, a small turbine wheel rotates as water flows through it. A magnet is attached to this turbine, and a Hall effect sensor detects the magnetic field changes as the magnet passes by. Each rotation of the turbine generates an electrical pulse.

The frequency of these pulses is directly proportional to the water flow rate. The relationship is given by the formula: F = 23 * Q、

  • F is the pulse frequency in Hz.
  • Q is the flow rate in Liters per Minute (L/Min).

By measuring the pulse frequency, you can calculate the instantaneous water flow rate. The sensor outputs a square wave pulse signal, which can be easily read by microcontrollers or other digital input devices.

The DIGITEN G3/8 Water Flow Sensor is designed for low maintenance. However, periodic checks can help ensure its longevity and accuracy.

Periodically check for any leaks at the connection points.
Ensure electrical connections remain secure and free from corrosion.
If flow readings become erratic or stop, inspect the sensor for any debris that might be obstructing the turbine's rotation. If necessary, disconnect the sensor and gently flush it with clean water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive tools.
If storing the sensor for an extended period, ensure it is clean, dry, and stored within the specified storage temperature and humidity ranges.

If you encounter issues with your DIGITEN G3/8 Water Flow Sensor, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

6.1 No Signal Output

  • 電源を確認してください: センサーが正しい動作電圧を受信していることを確認するtage (3-24V DC) and that the ground connection is secure.
Ensure all three wires (Red, Black, Yellow) are correctly connected to your system.
Confirm that water is actually flowing through the sensor. The sensor requires a minimum flow rate of 0.3 L/min to generate pulses.
  • Internal Obstruction: If water is flowing but no pulses are detected, the internal turbine might be jammed by debris. Refer to the Maintenance section for cleaning instructions.

Ensure the sensor is installed with the correct flow direction, aligning with the arrow on the sensor body.
  • Stable Flow: Turbulent flow can affect accuracy. Try to install the sensor in a straight section of pipe away from elbows, valves, or pumps.
Double-check your calculation using the pulse constant F = 23 * Q. Ensure your reading device is correctly interpreting the pulse frequency.
Ensure the power supply to the sensor is stable and within the specified voltage範囲。
