  • Triple-Drive Combination Terminal Screws: Facilitates easier and more versatile wiring connections.
  • High-Visibility LED Pilot Light: Clearly indicates when the circuit is live and the GFCI is providing protection.

WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH, TURN OFF POWER AT CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE BOX AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE WIRING!

  • Always test the GFCI outlet monthly to ensure proper operation.
  • This device is designed to protect against ground faults, not against electrical shock from contact with both circuit conductors (hot/neutral) or from short circuits.

Before installation, ensure the power to the circuit is OFF at the service panel. Use a voltage tester to confirm the circuit is de-energized.

The Leviton 7591-PLG GFCI outlet has LINE and LOAD terminals. It is crucial to connect the incoming power (LINE) to the correct terminals and the outgoing power (LOAD) to the appropriate terminals if protecting downstream outlets.

Identify the LINE (incoming power from breaker) and LOAD (outgoing power to other outlets) wires. Also identify the hot (black), neutral (white), and ground (green/bare copper) wires.
Connect the bare copper or green insulated ground wire from the circuit box to the green ground screw on the GFCI outlet.
Connect the incoming hot (black) LINE wire to the brass LINE terminal screw and the incoming neutral (white) LINE wire to the silver LINE terminal screw.
  5. LOADワイヤを接続する(オプション): If protecting downstream outlets, connect the outgoing hot (black) LOAD wire to the brass LOAD terminal screw and the outgoing neutral (white) LOAD wire to the silver LOAD terminal screw. If not protecting downstream outlets, cap the LOAD wires individually.
  6. Secure Outlet: Carefully fold wires into the wall box and secure the GFCI outlet with mounting screws.
Turn power ON at the circuit breaker.

After installation and restoring power, the GFCI outlet should be in a tripped state (RESET button will be out). Press the RESET button firmly to restore power to the outlet. The LED pilot light will illuminate, indicating the GFCI is functioning and providing protection.

Testing the GFCI

It is recommended to test the GFCI monthly to ensure proper operation.

  1. プラグアルamp or other device into the GFCI outlet and turn it ON.
  2. Press the TEST button on the GFCI. The device should trip, and the lamp/device should turn OFF. The RESET button should pop out.
  3. Press the RESET button firmly. The lamp/device should turn ON.
  4. If the GFCI fails to trip or reset, it may be faulty or improperly wired. Discontinue use and consult a qualified electrician.

Resetting the GFCI

If the GFCI trips (RESET button pops out), it indicates a ground fault has occurred. To restore power, unplug any devices from the outlet, then press the RESET button firmly. If the GFCI immediately trips again, there may still be a ground fault or a wiring issue. Investigate the cause before attempting to reset again.

The Leviton 7591-PLG GFCI outlet requires minimal maintenance. The primary maintenance task is the monthly testing procedure described in the Operating Instructions section. Keep the outlet and surrounding area clean and free from debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

GFCI will not reset. No power to the GFCI; GFCI is miswired (LINE/LOAD reversed); Internal fault; Downstream ground fault.Check circuit breaker. Verify LINE/LOAD wiring. If miswired, correct immediately. Unplug all devices from the GFCI and any downstream outlets, then try to reset. If it still won't reset, replace the GFCI.
Ground fault in connected appliance; Ground fault in downstream wiring/outlets; Moisture in circuit.Unplug appliances one by one to identify the faulty device. Inspect wiring for damage or moisture. If the problem persists, consult an electrician.
No power from GFCI, but RESET button is in.No power to the GFCI; Internal fault.Check circuit breaker. Test the GFCI (press TEST, then RESET). If it doesn't respond, the GFCI may be faulty and needs replacement.
LED Pilot Light is off.GFCI is tripped; No power to the GFCI; LED malfunction.Press RESET. Check circuit breaker. If the GFCI functions but the LED remains off, the LED may be faulty, but the GFCI protection should still be active.
